On Tuesday, January 8 , 2013, the Massachusetts Building Authority Designer Selection Panel reviewed proposals from 10 firms who submitted proposals for the Lunenburg feasibility study and schematic design. This 15 member panel is comprised of MSBA staff and MSBA designees as well as local representatives. For Lunenburg Ms. Speidel, Town Manager, Mr. Mackin, School Building Committee Chair and Superintendent Calmes served on the panel. After review of the proposals three firms were invited to interview, including Ai3 whose offices are in Wayland, Tappe Associates whose offices are in Boston, and Symmes, Maini & McKee Associates whose offices are in Cambridge. These firms will be interviewed by the MSBA panel on February 5.

In their comments to the panel the Lunenburg representatives indicated the community was looking for a firm that is excited to work with Lunenburg; has strong public communications skills and values community involvement and input and who can work collaboratively and effectively to assist us in reaching consensus. Superintendent Calmes also communicated that educational programming was extremely important to this project in order to assist us in determining the most effective solution. Two of the three firms we will interview have experience with 6-12 buildings. The MSBA website also provides much information on current and past MSBA projects that these firms are/have been involved. Jeffrey Luxenburg and Greg Cohan of Josslin Lesser, Lunenburg’s Owner’s Project Manager firm and Mr. John Londa, Director of Facilities for the District were provided assistance with this important process.

The next meeting of the School Building Committee will be Jan. 23 at 7:00 pm Room 13 TCP.
