Superintendent's Update June 11, 2016

Post date: Jun 14, 2016 1:34:02 AM

Many thanks to the students, faculty and staff for a terrific year! I wish everyone a relaxing, rejuvenating, and restful summer break with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you in August.

Move-Up Day was held for all students on Thursday. I want to acknowledge the work of the administrators and faculty for organizing the event and also parents and DEE bus for assisting with the logistics. The reconfiguration is well underway with many teachers having already moved instructional materials into classrooms across the district. The moving company will be on site next week for the clean-out of LHS and moves between schools.

A Building Becomes A School! On Thursday students entering grade 6-12 had the opportunity to see their new school during move-up day. It was a remarkable, inspiring event. The students were excited, proud and so very appreciative of this wonderful new facility the community has made available to them. The new middle-high school is in their words "totally awesome" and will serve the community well for decades to come.

Official dedication ceremonies will be held in the fall. The public will have opportunities to tour the building throughout the summer. A schedule of tour days and times will be posted next week.

Phase 2 of the Project Begins on Monday - Passios Temporary Traffic Plan

Please be advised that in advance of the demolition of the high school, phone service to the T. C. Passios Building will be interrupted on Monday, June 13, 2016. The Superintendent’s Office and Special Services Office will be open for business, but there will be no phone service. We can be reached via email that day or by coming into the offices.

Also, please note that electrical service to T. C. Passios Building will be interrupted on Wednesday, June 15th. Central office personnel will be working from other locations and the offices at TCP will be closed. Central office personnel are available to assist you via email.

Traffic and parking at TCP will be impacted by the project. New gates and site fencing will be put in place next week. Parents/guardians with children attending Extended Day or Summer School programs are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new traffic pattern that will be in place throughout the summer. The plan is attached:Passios traffic plan.pdf

School Committee Meeting June 15

The meeting will be held in room #13 of the Thomas C. Passios Building. The agenda includes finalizing the FY17 line item budget, FY17 fees, handbooks, sports waivers, and the LHS School Improvement Plan.

Congratulations Retirees!

Steve Archambault (29 years of service), Rhonda Malatos (28 years of service), Judy Haley (28 years of service), Linda Papadopoulos (16 years of service) and Natalie Davulis (15 years of service) join a prestigious group of retired Lunenburg Public Schools employees. As they pass the torch to a new generation, I hope the benefit our children derived from their dedication, compassion, and hard work is repaid in kind with long, happy and healthy retirements sprinkled with memories of successful/fulfilled careers. On behalf of our school community, I extend to each of them our heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation for your service to the students of the Lunenburg Public Schools.

Have a great summer everyone!

Sincerely,

Superintendent Loxi Jo Calmes
