Congratulations and thank you to the students and their families at Turkey Hill Elementary School for an outstanding fundraising event. Ms. Champagne looks good with blue hair! Thanks also to the PTO for coordinating the effort and to DCU for the use of their coin counting machine. The total collected was an amazing $5548.45 which will be used to help fund student field trips. The Penny Wars fundraiser is now underway at the middle school, and students held an exciting kick-off on Friday. Mr. Santry provided some incentives to the middle school students in order to reach the $5000 goal.

Best wishes for a wonderful time and rich learning opportunities to the 5^th grade students heading to Nature’s Classroom on Monday. This long standing program offers students, teachers, and chaperones an opportunity to learn and experience the great outdoors. Rain or shine, the students always return with a greater appreciation of the natural world.

Register Today for Miles for Myles Run, Walk, Ride ---- Sunday, October 16

Support the Lunenburg PTO and the Miles for Myles Committee by participating in the 15th Annual Miles for Myles 5K Race/Walk/Bike Ride/Fun Run on Sunday, October 16. There is a newly certified route this year with a new starting point – the new Lunenburg Middle-High School! The Lunenburg PTO is excited to host the annual Miles for Myles event. With your help the PTO gives back to our school district yearly by providing funds for non-budgeted items such as added technology, guest speakers/programs, field trips, materials and supplies. 10% of the proceeds from Miles for Myles will be donated to support the No Need to Speed® awareness campaigns about the dangers of high-speed and distracted driving. Automobile accidents are the leading cause of death among teenagers.

Get in on the fun – Run, Walk, or Ride! Free Dri-Fit T-shirts to the first 400 registrants, prizes and refreshments. Register now! When registering please make sure to check off which school you are participating for. The winning school will receive $1000!

School Committee Meeting – Wednesday Oct. 5, 2016 @ 7:00 p.m. - Town Hall (televised)

The meeting includes MCAS reports and building updates from the primary, elementary, and middle schools. The Committee will also consider a resolution related to the ballot question on Charter Schools and a proposal from Mr. McCauliff for an 8^th-9^thfootball team to play 4-6 games.

Fitchburg State University President Richard S. Lapidus will be inaugurated Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016. The University is hosting several events next week as part of the inauguration and homecoming celebration. Events range from a puppet show to salsa dancing. Also featured is a lecture by renowned economist Dr. James K. Galbraith and the Robert E. Cormier Symposium. Still Seeking Volunteers- Adult Education Advisory

With the opening of the new Lunenburg Middle–High School, it is the stated goal of the Lunenburg School Committee to develop and implement an adult education program to benefit the Lunenburg Community. To that end, the School Committee seeks to form an Advisory Committee. Members will be volunteers appointed by the School Committee as follows: one (1) member from the School Committee who will be the liaison to the School Committee, two (2) educators, and four (4) community members.
