Standards of Conduct--Conflict of Interest and Hiring of Relatives

Lunenburg Public Schools District Policy (4101.02) states, No employee of the District will engage in or have a financial interest in, directly or indirectly, any activity that conflicts or raises a reasonable question of conflict with his/her duties and responsibilities in the school system; nor will any staff member engage in any type of private business during school time or on school property except as authorized by the district administration.
  • Employees will not engage in work of any type where information concerning customer, client, or employer originates from any information available to them through school sources.
  • As there should be no conflict of interest in the supervision or evaluation of employees, at no time will any administrator be responsible for the supervision and/or evaluation of any employee who is related to him/her.
  • In the employment and assignment of personnel, close relatives may not be employed in the same school or under the same administrative unit head. One relative shall have no responsibility of a supervisory nature over the other.
  • For the purpose of this policy, close relatives shall be defined as including the natural or adopted mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, or grandchild of the employee or of the spouse of the employee, and the spouse, son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, or sibling of the employee, or any relative living in the immediate household of the employee.
  • The Superintendent may waive the provisions of this policy when the assignment or placement of both relatives is of such a nature that no reasonable alternatives are available or appropriate.
